What is the best carpet for me?
Before deciding on one fiber or another for our custom carpet or for our carpet, we must take into account several issues. The first thing is to define the use we are going to give it. High traffic areas will require a different type of carpet than low traffic areas. Living with pets, outdoor use, having children at home, budget and the style we are looking for, will also be factors to consider before making a decision.
High traffic areas in the home include hallways and most used living spaces. If we refer to the contract market, any public space will be considered high traffic.
Both have their own characteristics, but all KP custom carpets are designed to perform at their best according to their attributes and limitations.
There are no long pile or cut pile carpets that completely prevent footfall from being noticed, however, carpets of other types of construction do. For example, flat weaves or loop construction.
We will need a synthetic carpet that is stain resistant and easy to clean. See our pet-friendly carpet finder for easy-to-clean collections.
As always, the first thing to do is to determine the intended use of the carpet. High or low traffic areas or indoor or outdoor use will determine, among others, the right choices.
There are no standards, but there are recommendations. Here is a drawing to make it clearer

Types and recommended use of carpets according to their construction
They are the most common. Because they have no snagging loops, they are a good choice for homes with pets, as long as they are also easy to clean and incorporate stain protection. These can have a longer or shorter pile length for one style or the other. Cut pile rugs that are not too long will be easier to maintain. Cut pile carpets are more prone to tread marks.
A loop rug is made by forming a loop in the yarn. This style of carpet is tough, durable and does not tend to mark footprints as cut pile carpets, for example, will. They are recommended for high traffic areas.
Types and recommended use of carpets according to their fiber
Polyamide carpets are highly resistant to fading and stains. For this reason they are a very popular choice. These carpets are constructed using highly resilient man-made fibers, meaning that they maintain their twist. As a result, with proper maintenance, the carpet will maintain a similar appearance to when it was purchased. Recommended for high traffic areas
A synthetic fiber less expensive than polyamide, but with good color fastness properties when dyed. Polyester carpets or rugs are soft and pleasant to the touch. This fiber is also suitable for high traffic areas, although its resilience is lower than polyamide fiber.
Polypropylene carpets have very attractive properties. Among them, they are easy to clean since they can be cleaned with a diluted bleach solution, they resist discoloration well and above all, they are more economical than other fibers. In addition, many of them are suitable for outdoor use. It is important to keep in mind that their resistance over time is lower than that of other synthetic fibers such as polyester and of course polyamide or nylon.
Fiber created by MOHAWK, the world's largest carpet manufacturer and distributed exclusively by KP Carpets. They are the perfect choice for families with children and pets. SmartStrand Forever Clean is designed to resist crushing, stains and for easy cleaning thanks to its new Nanoloc ™ spill protection technology. This unique feature is integrated into the fiber at the molecular level. Its fiber recovers while maintaining its appearance over time. They are the highest rated carpets by consumers in the USA.
ECONYL ® fiber is a novel recycled nylon extracted mainly from waste thrown into the sea, such as fishing nets and plastics that can be regenerated an unlimited number of times without affecting its quality. This is a path that is opening up to us and a very important step towards the regeneration of the planet. These carpets are resistant to wear and tear and to the passage of time.
Viscose is a cellulose, which comes from natural fibers such as cotton and wood. Its look and feel is similar to silk, with the added advantage of being more economical. Its appearance is luxurious, its touch very soft, which is why it attracts a lot of attention among decorators and their clients. Its use is recommended in areas of low traffic because this fiber is more delicate and resists less traffic than other fibers and its cleaning is more laborious.
Of the carpets made of natural animal fibers, wool carpets are undoubtedly the most sought after and there is a reason for this. The comfort is well known, but other characteristics are not so well known: they are insulating against both cold and heat, which can save energy consumption. Wool fibers are naturally curled, so they have great elasticity, which means that they recover their original shape after being crushed, wool is a powerful acoustic insulator of noise which is why its use is very common in private residences as well as hotels and other public spaces and also retain their color better because they absorb the dyes in greater depth, these two technical aspects mean greater longevity of your carpet or rug.
The structure of wool fibers prevents dirt from penetrating deep into your carpets or rugs, making them easy to clean with a vacuum cleaner or a simple brushing. Studies have shown that spaces with this type of carpeting reduce airborne dust particles by 80%.
Sisal and seaweed are among the most demanded fibers for their timelessness, eclecticism and rustic spirit. Its resistance to stains and the passage of time is less than that of other fibers, but the way it ages is always attractive.
Cleaning and maintenance of my custom-made carpets or rugs
Be careful when opening the plastic. Do not use sharp objects as you may damage the carpet. Keep the plastic and the inner cardboard cylinder until you have checked that the carpet is undamaged.
The first thing we have to take into account is the type of stain and then the type of fiber the carpet is made of. We will differentiate between maintenance and stain cleaning. < href="/purchase-guide/how-to-clean-my-carpet-o-carpet/" title="How to clean my custom-made carpet or carpet?">Learn more
High traffic areas in the home include hallways and heavily used living spaces. After heavy use, you may notice wear patterns or stains. It may be advisable to reposition the carpet from time to time to make these wear patterns less visible. Professional cleaning and vacuuming at least once a week will help keep custom carpets in good condition.
We recommend that you use a different vacuum for different types of carpets. For short pile carpets, we suggest a vacuum with a rotating brush that agitates the pile and loosens the dirt to make the carpet easier to maintain. For tufted, cut pile or berber carpets, we recommend removing the brush or changing the brush head to avoid excess lint. At least one vacuuming per week is recommended. Learn more
A professional cleaning is advisable once a year, if, for exceptional reasons or unexpected stains, it should be done earlier.
Carpets, like all dyed textiles, slowly fade over time when exposed to direct sunlight; therefore, you should protect them from extended periods of direct exposure. Fading can also occur when carpet is exposed to ozone, emissions from heating fuels and air conditioners, pesticides, cleaning agents, benzoyl peroxide and other household items. This occurrence, known as ozone damage, is largely unexplained, but appears to be more frequent in areas with high ultraviolet content.
Lint balls or loose fibers found in the carpet or vacuum bag is normal. These fibers are the ones that remain in the carpet during the manufacturing process. Removal of these loose fibers does not affect the life or appearance of the carpet. These fibers by themselves do not disappear as they are embedded in the fabric. With vacuuming and the use of a suitable vacuum cleaner, this lint will gradually disappear over the first few months.
When the relative humidity in a room is very low, a static charge can build up on the carpet when walking on it. If this occurs, a humidifier or other commercially available products can help reduce it.
Carpet pile can be compressed by foot traffic or the weight of furniture. To put the pile back in position we recommend vacuuming and if this is not enough you can heat the area a little with an iron keeping it at least 15 cm away from the carpet. It is highly recommended not to drag the furniture on the carpet or to put a protection on the carpet when using chairs with wheels.
Simply cut the end to level the carpet surface. Never pull out long or loose ends, as this can permanently damage your carpet. If a strand gets snagged or loose, simply cut it off and let the surrounding strand fill the space.
The light reflects differently as the hair is in different directions. Pedestrian traffic generally causes this, and the best solution, should this not be to your liking, is to vacuum in one direction or the other.
No. Wrinkles in carpets are common and will occur when the carpet has been rolled for shipping. The folds will flatten in several weeks. It is NOT recommended to keep the carpet rolled up for more than one week after receiving it.
New carpets will have a "new carpet smell" and if the carpet is wool, the smell may be more intense for obvious reasons. It usually takes about 15 days for the odor to disappear.
We make a great effort to ensure that the images we display on our website are as close to reality as possible, but unfortunately this is impossible. One setting or another on your computer or mobile screen can make a difference. In addition, it may happen that, after having seen a physical sample of the collection, when the carpet arrives to you, you may notice slight color variations. These are tinting variations. These small variations are normal in the industry and are not considered defects.
